Driving to the Museum yesterday, I got a close look at a bumper sticker on the rear of a car whose driver cut me off:
When the power of love
overcomes the love of power,
then the world will know peace.
A lovely sentiment. I suppose the application of the sticker to the bumper was a simple gesture of admiration for Jimi Hendrix (the apparent source of the quotation) rather than any endorsement of the content of Hendrix’s remark.
Else one is invited to understand that “the power of love” is completely compatible with cutting fellow motorists off because, what the hell, you’re in the far left lane, and you suddenly realize this is your exit.
